Case Study: Dallas/Fort Worth Airport

DFW LayoutThere are significant unknown entities when serving customers at a location as large as an airport. DFW covers 29 square miles, has 60,000 onsite employees and 14 receiving and delivery areas. The airport is the second largest in the United States. Approximately 164,000 travelers pass through DFW on their way to one of 173 destinations every day. The airport has 40,000 parking spaces, but between staff members and travelers, the need is nearly five times higher.

Valet Requirements

Flight informationThe valet operation at DFW is unique because of the enormity of the facility. The patterns of flights and travelers create a monumental challenge for valet service. Customers arrive at and depart from different gates, their schedules change, their flights are delayed or early and their luggage may be diverted to different claim areas. Activity is heavy and unpredictable and the valet operation was required to provide service without affecting automobile traffic, foot traffic, and parking capacities.

DFW ValetAutomated Valet® applied several unique solutions to make the DFW valet operation successful. The integration of its wireless operating system with the airport’s flight database is a revolutionary innovation that has not been applied to any other airport valet operation. The software was created from the ground up by Automated Valet’s programmers. They faced significant difficulties given the database’s complexity in design, the magnitude of information it holds and sources it draws from, and the constant changeability of that information.
